MATHMOD & ARTS
At MATHMOD 2003 and MATHMOD 2006 the organisers started to design appealing conference handouts, as conference badges, vouches and leaflets, and to link mathematics and arts by posters at Cafe Simulation. For this reason, paintings of famous Austrian artists were used. MATHMOD 2003 was dedicated to a well known familiy of painters, Kasimir, who painted at lot of Vienna’s buildings round the turn of the century. MATHMOD 2006 was dedicated to a world-famous Austrian Painter, one of the most prominent members of Vienna Art Nouveau (Vienna Secession) movement, Gustav Klimt.
MATHMOD 2009 establishes now MATH & ARTS, an idea combining mathematical modelling and fine arts, continuing and extending essentially the previous art links:
- presenting lectures on mathematical modelling in fine arts,
- designing Conference Proceedings, badges and other conference handouts with printings and paintings especially created for MATHMOD,
- providing a unique conference art present for participants
- providing prizes for4 Best Poster Award and Best Student Poster Award
- organising a small art exhibition, and others
MATHMOD 2009 - Algorithmic Art
MATHMOD 2009 organisers are happy to announce, that Vlatko Ceric - expert in discrete stochastic modelling and simulation - and expert and designer in the field of Algorithmic Art - will provide his artwork for MATHMOD. Vlatko Ceric, professor at Univ. Zagreb, started with algorithmic art in mid-1970th at early times of computer graphics, and started exhibiting in 2005. Vlatko participated at exhibitions from New York City till Perth till Novosibirsk.
Algorithmic Art - a rough definition by V. Ceric:
- an algorithm is a procedure for solving a problem
- a computer program is an algorithm coded in certain programming language
- algorithmic art is generated by executing specific algorithms (computer programs) -
- no image editing with software like Photoshop is done in any stage of image generation
Invited Lectures - ART & MATH
MATHMOD 2009 will present two lectures on mathematical modelling in fine arts:
- Algorithms, Mathematics and Art
Vlatko Ceric, Univ. Zagreb, Criatia - Laura and Petrarca - True Emotions vs. Modelled Emotions
LAURA Group, Vienna Univ. of Technology Austria
